These gold specimens came from a placer gold operation near Canada. It was the result of a quality control sampling that I was asked to perform.

We procured 1/4 ounce (troy) of gold from a single 3lb coffee can that came from the tailings. The reason that this gold had not been recovered by gravity, is that the visible gold is a thin layer of gold coating quartz pebbles.

The system consisted of only a grizzly, a trommel, and a sluice box. It was a poorly designed placer gold recovery system for its location. It was only designed to recover large gold nuggets.
